Here’s a turn-up for the books! Nintendo is remaking its classic Pokémon Gold and Silver games, using the new graphics technology it has pioneered in Pokémon Platinum. The new editions, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, are shaping up nicely and we have been lucky enough to see early versions of the games…
Yes, these are Generation IV remakes of the Generation II originals and take us back to the land of Johto. You start out the adventure in New Bark Town as a rookie Pokémon Trainer. You have a rival (well, don’t you always?) called Silver, and you are both desperate to impress Professor Elm.
Just like what happened when Nintendo remade Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen (the originals were Red and Green), there are lots of enhancements that have been made to the original games. The major change is that these new games will include Pokémon that have been introduced in Generation III and IV of the games. When Gold and Silver were originally released, there were only 251 Pokémon in total, the latest of which was Celebi, so we’ve obviously come a long way since then!
Those boffins who love deconstructing games have discovered that there was always data in the Diamond, Pearl and Platinum games that will make battling and trading between them and these two new games possible. So Nintendo was obviously planning well ahead! We believe that you will have to complete certain objectives in the games before this becomes possible. Nintendo always likes to make players work for their rewards!
The boy character you get to select is called Gold, just like in the originals. Interestingly though, the original female counterpart to Gold, called Kris, isn’t believed to be in the new games. Instead there’s a new female lead named Soul. She is a young girl who lives with her mother in New Bark Town.
Now for the weird bit! The games come packed with a Pokémon pedometer called the PokéWalker. The idea is you transfer a Pokémon to the device, then it counts the number of steps you make in a day. The more you move, the bigger happiness boost your Pokémon will receive! What a great way to get kids up off their bums and moving!
This is the PokéWalker! It registers how many steps you have taken throughout the day and raises your Pokémon’s level and happiness accordingly.

This game looks TOTALLY SWEET! I’m super excited for it to come out. And DHL was right-the train looks awesome. My friends and I all agree that the graphics are really impressive. I have Platinum version, and I recomend it to everyone, so I deffinetly think this game is gonna rock!
I really can’t wait for this game to com out in North America. When the original Johto games came out I thoroughly enjoyed them. This time though, I do hope they added a storyline for when you travel through Kanto, as that was probably the most boring aspect of the game, in my opinion anyways.
Either way with all the new mini games and possible side-quests, I’m sure this will no doubt be one of the better remakes for any game that will exist, especially considering how popular Pokemon is, even if a lot of people don’t admit they still play the games.
The part of these games that I’m glad they put in though, is that part where the Pokemon follow you. I truly enjoyed being able to tell how Pikachu (even if I hate that sore excuse for a mascot) felt about its trainer in the yellow version, and am glad they brought it back, only for all Pokemon.
All in all, I feel this will probably be the greatest Pokemon release to date, and I will most definitely be buying these games.

kanto was so boring i have pokemon leafgreen,firered,platnuim,pearl and gold so far golds the best of them all.
My cousin said that the Gold and Silver layout was brill and that he’s really wanting this game to come out soon, and so do I! Walking with Arceus must b so awesome! And I love the 3D graphics!

Ever since FireRed and LeafGreen’s release, there has been a lot of specualtion about remakes of Gold and Silver. I found out about HG and SS about a month before Pokemon World reported it, and I was absolutely delighted that the rumors were true. Also, it is known that all the apricorn poke balls will return. I was unsure if all the apricorn balls would be there, as similar balls have appeared since Generation 2, like the Luxury ball, which acts a bit like the Friend ball, and the Dive ball, which has a very similar use to the Lure Ball. I hope these balls can be transferred to the other GenIV games. Also, all the other new features, look interesting. The only thing I want to know is: Will we be getting the cut version of the Kanto region in G/S/C, or will Kanto’s routes and citys be restored to their original length? I hope so. And since Mewtwo’s back in this game, I’m guessing he’ll be in Cerulean Cave again, if it’s restored. (I hope it is!)

they can be caught normally. you can also catch kyogre or groudon dependig on which game.
also, kyogre is in heart gold and groudon in soul silver and if you take arceus to tohjo ruins you can pick between 1 of the 3 dragons of sinnoh at level 1
also safari zone is beside cianwood city and a new battle frontier is replacing the battle tower from pokemon crystl!!!!
forgot- if you get both kyogre and groudon in one game you get to catch rayquaza aswell!!!!

Wait, does this have something to do with the fact that the DSi has no GBA slot? Obviously there will be some poor saps somewhere who will be unable to use Pokemon from the GBA games, so I guess this update takes care of them. Now those little GBA cartridges will mean nothing in capturing every Pokemon, because this game fills in the gaps, just like Fr/Lg did for the 3rd gen.
I’m also very interested to see what they’ll do to implement the PokeWalker. So far, it seems to make it that much easier to raise those happiness-based Pokemon. And every Pokemon can follow you? Sweet! I really cannot wait for this coming installment.

Ho-oh and Lugia can be caught normally, like in Gold and Silver. It depends on which game you have. Ho-oh in HeartGold, and Lugia in SoulSilver. If you got SoulSilver, you can catch Lugia first, and after you beat the Elite Four and go to Kanto, you can catch Ho-oh at a later point, and vice-versa with HeartGold. So no, they are not event Pokemon, for all those who thought they were. P.S. Are they gonna remake Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, and maybe someday, Diamond, Pearl and Platinum? I hope so!

Seems interesting and the like. Yet, I hope they include contests on any of the regions implemented. The ability to actually capture the shiny Gyarados as the storyline? That’s freaking great, for once Nintendo are getting off their buts and working hard on something better than the other Region games. This is most likely to be the best Pokemon game in the series for a long time.
This game is sure gonna be a hit, espacially with the new Poke-Nav!

Pokemon Crystal will not be remade, since Pokemon Heartgoldd and SoulSilver have everything (Plotwise) Crystal has.
@andre: There’s gonna be a new system of pokemon contests. You can also make new ‘pokeblock’ type items that you make by blending apricots, which will also be back.

i saw a scan of a french magazine where they said that it’ll be released at the end of the year in europe … don’t know how they would have gotten the information but it wouldn’t be the first time that a game will be released in europe before in the us (mario kart wii for example has been released in europe even before it was released in japan)

Yeah it is going to be a brilliant game! Nintendo should do what they are doing taking pokemon hacks (Shiny Gold, Shiny Silver, ect) and turning them into real games. (Remembering to take out the bad language of course)

Well I Got HeartGold N SoulSilver
Apparently they aren’t making a new version of Crystal(Shame) but Crystal’s story WILL be in HeartGold and SoulSilver(YAY!!!). That guy Eusine will be chasing Suicune(Much like in Crystal), and you battle Suicune at Route 25(Which is in Kanto). He is at level 40 so stock up on UltraBalls(I would save the MasterBall for Suicune, if I were you)

i have already started playing both of them but i cant understand Japanese so its a bit hard to play but ill get through
i captured suicune its lvl 40 and dont capture it with a master ball an ultra ball me and my friend captured in two ultra balls but near 1 hp that was so easy and dont capture lugia with master ball its a waste of time ive got soul silver ive been trying to capture ho oh for a day or so.

I can read some of the symbols. I can’t read much Japanese though, only like sayounara and konbannwa, just to name a few. See the third one? That’s Shinto Iseki. Which is actually Sinnoh Ruins. Once you obtain the Movie 12 Arceus, you can visit that place and choose only one of the following
Dialga
Palkia
Giratina
They are at level 1 – great for EV training and SRing for a good nature. They also come with their own move, which they cannot learn my natural beings
Dialga : Meta Burst
Palkia : Hydro Pump
Giratina : Shadow Sneak
imo, Giratina is the best since it’s probably the best Tank out there and you will be needing a priority move for it.
Oh, and Play-Asia are selling them – my mums importing Soul Silver for me. Just like Marrialnd and Giancarloparimango11 did! w00t!
you can hatch an egg of either giratina, DIALGA OR PALKIA!! and u can catch a shiny gyrados!!

You know whats funny, I was the very first person to play Soul Silver in Australia, tats right, pre-ordered it from Japan and got it here the day it came out, and my brother was first to play Heart Gold.

Can’t wait til they come out! XD Pokemon Gold and Silver were my all-time favorite games, and now they’re being re-made for the Nintendo DS! ^-^ I just can’t wait!
Oh, and to chimchar master, you can get the Japanese games by ordering either from a Japanese website, ordering through an imported-game website, or just wait for the games to come out in English. ^^;; I’ve order the Japanese Pokemon Diamond and Pearl from estarland.com (they sell VERY quickly), and I bought the English versions at Walmart! XD
And to HG about the Gyarados thing….uh…duh….o_o;;; If you played the old Gold and Silver games you would have already known that…they were released in year 2000, and can still be found at used games stores. >.>;;
And to I love pokemon, that is illegal and you could be sued/arrested for that.
