What’s this? A new Pokémon game? Well what are you waiting for? Let’s play…

Buy it. End of review. Nah, not really, but if you’re reading this you’re obviously a big Pokémon fan, and Pokémon Platinum is without doubt the ultimate Pokémon game made to date, so you really should rush out and buy a copy for yourself. Let us explain why…
Pokémon games never stray too far from that original idea had by Satoshi Tajiri back in 1995 for the Game Boy. You are a kid living at home with your mum when you decide it’s time to step out on your own and become a Pokémon Trainer. You meet a famous Pokémon Professor, grab your first Pokémon and set off on a big adventure, with a rival Pokémon Trainer never too far behind to get in your way and egg you on.
Of course, being the third game in the fourth generation of Pokémon adventures, Platinum does borrow heavily from Diamond and Pearl. Think of this as a remix – it’s the same location, Sinnoh, but the weather has changed everything to a snowy landscape. You’ll meet the same Gym Leaders and Trainers, but they are likely to have different Pokémon this time around. In fact, the wild Pokémon you encounter will be different too, as there are monsters in here that weren’t in the previous games, and vice versa.
So why buy this if you’ve already played and enjoyed the first two fourth-generation DS adventures? Well it’s more of the same but with a bit more polish, and that’s precisely what all hardcore Pokémon gamers want. It’s wonderful to get stuck into those Pokémon battles again, this time with improved special effects on all the Pokémon attacks, and new animation on the monsters in your party.
Saving the detail for our Expert Players’ Guide, the new features in Platinum are The Distortion World, where the game turns 3D and platforms go off in all directions. You enter this world through a portal at the top of Mt. Coronet. It is here that you meet Giratina in its Origin Forme – a monster we first saw in the movie Pokémon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior. As well as Giratina, you’ll meet a new Shaymin – the Sky Forme – and have to get the Gracidea Flower to stop it reverting to its Land Forme. There are five new Rotom Formes, and at an upcoming event you will be able to get a new Regigigas that will unlock a Regirock, Regice and Registeel to catch. This game has a Battle Frontier that the first two adventures were missing with mini-games to play and lots of battling options to improve your skills. Then there’s the Vs Recorder, where you can record your battles and send videos to pals over Wi-Fi!
There’s a full, new adventure to play through in Platinum! You will encounter Cyrus and attempt to thwart his evil plans, learn the mystery of the Pokémon statue in Eterna City, get a Pokémon egg from Trainer Cynthia, make Poffin for your Pokémon party, explore the Lost Tower near Solaceon Town and see 493 Pokémon to complete your National Pokédex.
Once you have completed all of this, there will still be lots in the game to keep you entertained. Customising your Pokémon, playing the side quests, racking up high scores in the mini-games and trading Pokémon with other fans through the Global Trade Station to name just four! This is without doubt the most sophisticated and complete Pokémon game to date.
We’ve been playing the game for days now, and although things start out quite slow for seasoned Pokémon players, once you have a good pair of running shoes on, you can repel some of the wild Pokémon to cut down on the random battles and adventure beyond Oreburgh City, where the game really explodes with exciting things. We can now visit the Wi-Fi Plaza in the basements of Pokémon Centers and use the Global Terminal in Jubilife City to get in touch with other Pokémon fans.
So, the final verdict is that you really need Pokémon Platinum in your life. Do whatever it takes – beg your mum or dad for the cash, sell your old Pokémon games, get rid of all those stuffed Pikachus in a car boot sale – this is the only Pokémon game you need now, and you’re going to have to dedicate some serious time to completing it. Welcome to the future of Pokémon gaming!

out of rapidash and arcanine i would have to say charizard. usually i would say arcanine because he is a personal favorite of mine but unfortunately gamefreak doesn’t agree with me. they unfortunately gave arcanine a low speed stat paired with a below average defens and a major weakness of it is water and earthquake 2 of the most common types used in competitive battling. now if you don’t mind that then there is one other issue, gamefreak decided to gear arcanine in its physical attack over special attack. now most times i would have to say thats a good thing but its not considering most most fire type moves are special attacks. but arcanine does have one good thing going for it it can learn the elemental fang moves(I think) and it is one of the few pokemon that can learn extreme speed. Now rapidash is pretty close to arcanine except it has an abnormally high speed stat. but unfortunately it suffers from the same issues as arcanine with its low defense and the fact that its also geared towards physical attack limits its ability as a good team member. The reason i say choose charizard is because it has an exceptional speed stat, high special attack and an ok defensive stat. the only issue with it is the appearance of stone edge which will giv charizard a 4 times damage multiplier(pretty much a 1 hit kill) but othe than that charizard is the better choice
