Pokémon Trading Figure Game

by the Pocket World team

The makers of the brilliant Pokémon Trading Card Game created an entirely new, collectable Pokémon game back in 2006, but sadly it didn’t last long…

Pokémon Trading Figure GameTradingFigureGameLogoOctober 2006 was the month The Pokémon Company launched the Pokémon Trading Figure Game in the UK, we actually got it before the Americans or Japanese, but what exactly was it all about?

Well the makers of the Trading Card Game often had requests to make a collectable figure game but they didn’t want to just throw any old game together, instead they took years to develop this new game and asked Japanese model makers Kaiyodo Co., Ltd to come up with the special sculptures that the figures are based on.

Players battle it out on a choice of playmats, with Trainer Cards, Trainer Figures and of course the Pokémon figures all used in the game. Spinning the Pokémon and reading off the outcome on the dials determines who wins and who is loses a battle.

At launch you could buy the game at all good toy shops like Toys R Us, Argos and Toymaster, and the first version was called Next Quest with Groundbreakers soon following on. The plan was to release new expansions to the game, allowing you to build up an impressive collection of figures, just like players do with the trading cards. Unfortunately The Pokémon Company weren’t that impressed with the sales figures of the game and have since dropped it, preferring to concentrate on the Trading Card Game. You can still pick up figures and game packs though if you shop around on the internet.

Pokémon Trading Figure Game Facts
• General producer at Pokémon and one of the designers of the original card game, Mr Tsunekaz Ishihara, designed the figure game.
• Pokémon USA hoped that players would collect lots of figures and build up impressive collections.
• The models were actually sculpted by Kaiyodo Co., Ltd in Japan.
• The first release of Pokémon Trading Figure Game included 40 figures including fan favourites like Pikachu and Charizard.
• Then there were special Trainer figures and limited edition models to find!
• The game is won when one of your Pokémon lands on your opponent’s goal, or if your opponent can’t attack, move or use their Trainer.
• Trainer Cards are also included, but can only be used by spinning a Trainer figure and getting the go-ahead! They boost your Pokémon’s powers.
• Players each spin their Pokémon during play and the winner of a battle depends on the part of the dial each Pokémon points to. Blue beats everything, purple beats white and two whites mean the strongest attack wins.
• A miss will lose to all attacks and if both players spin the same colour, nothing
happens and you have to spin again.
• So, time to start shopping then eh? Next Quest Battle Starter sets will give a boost to any Pokémon fan’s figure collection with six Pokémon and three Trainers.
• The full Starter Set includes three Pokémon figures with bases, one Trainer figure, a two-sided playmat, two-sided collector’s sheet, a rulebook and three Trainer cards.
• The Battle Starter Set has yet more PTFG googies! Six Pokémon figures, one Judge figure, two Trainers and lots of Trainer cards

I say to you, I certainly get irked whilst other people consider concerns that they plainly do not recognize about. You managed to hit the nail upon the highest as smartly as outlined out the entire thing without having side-effects , folks could take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thank you
