Pokémon Heroes

by the Pocket World team

Ash and his entourage arrive in the water city of Altomare and Ash takes part in a Water Chariot Race, along with Misty. There’s some weird stuff going on in this city though with Team Rocket agents on a mission to find the spirit of Legendary Pokémon Latios.

volknerPokemonHeroesDVDBoxIt’s always exciting to be introduced to new characters in the Pokémon universe, and Pokémon Heroes has a bunch of them, so sit back and enjoy the movie!

Things start off with two agents from Team Rocket on their way to the ancient water city of Altomare. This is Annie and Oakley, and they have been sent by Team Rocket leader Giovanni to find the Soul Dew. This mystical substance is said to contain the spirit of Legendary Pokémon Latios. Giovanni wants to get his hands on the Soul Dew as it powers a special machine called the DMA – Defense Mechanism of Altomare.

Heroes1They are not the only people travelling to Altomare though, on their journey through the region of Johto Ash, Misty and Brock have stopped off to explore this unique city of water. Ash and Misty have entered themselves in the Tour de Altomare – a fast and fierce race on water through the city’s canals with challengers pulled along on water chariots by their Pokémon!

The race around Altomare is dominated by the reigning champion, Ross with Ash and Misty struggling to keep their water chariots on the right path. Things are made even tougher when two invisible Pokémon grab the reigns of Ash’s chariot and speed him off in the wrong direction! Misty goes on to win the race with her Corsola, much to the amazement of Ross and his Wailmer. To show there are no hard feelings, Ross gives Misty and the gang a tour around the city on his gondola and tells them about the legend of Latias and Latios – the city’s protectors.

Heroes2

Jessie and James from Team Rocket are also in Altomare but they are on holiday. When they discover that Annie and Oakley are here on official Team Rocket business they decide to stalk them. It appears they are on the trail of Latias, a Pokémon that can shape-shift into a little girl. Choosing their moment, Annie and Oakley attempt to trap Latias with their Ariados and Espeon, but just then Ash and the team turn up and allow Latias to escape.

The Legendary Pokémon leads everyone to safety, but then suddenly disappears – how mysterious. The gang continue their tour, visiting the city’s museum and talking to the curator, Lorenzo. He tells them all about the history of the place – there was once a Pokémon Trainer who tormented citizens with an Aerodactyl and Kaputops. But then Latios came along, flooding the city and banishing the fossil Pokémon to the depths. Ash notices a young girl just like Latias’ human form and chases her. This is Bianca and she shakes him off, but instead them meet up with Latias again who takes everyone to its garden home under the water.

Heroes3Latios and the young girl down in the depths don’t like Ash and his gang visiting but they are calmed by Lorenzo’s appearance. It turns out he is the girl’s granddad. As the story of Altomare continues we discover that the original Latios died while saving the city, leaving behind a new Latios and Latias. The Soul Dew contains the original Pokémon’s soul and if it were to be taken away, the city would be doomed!

Later on that night that’s exactly what happens! Annie and Oakely steal the Soul Dew and plan to destroy the city. Latias flies off to find Ash and ask for help and they rush to the museum, where Lorenzo has tracked the culprits to. They find Latios being used to power the DMA – but it is going out of control! The poor Pokémon is in incredible pain and when Misty and Brock turn up, Latias attempts to sooth her brother using her psychic abilities. The Soul Dew explodes and the city drains of water, but on heading outside the gang realise a tidal wave is about to hit! Latios and Latias combine forces to stop the destruction of the wave, but in doing so Latios uses up the last of its lifeforce and dies!

Heroes4Latios’ soul is sacrificed to become the new Soul Dew, restoring calm to Altomare and thwarting Team Rocket’s evil plans. Ash, Misty and Brock prepare to leave the city and say goodbye to Lorenzo. They then spot Bianca, or is it Latias as a girl? She rushes over to Ash at the dock and gives him a big kiss! Misty and Brock wonder who Ash is kissing, is it a young girl, or a transformed Pokémon?  That’s left up to you, the viewer, to decide!
