PokéPark Palpitations!Dear Professor Yew,
I was surfing some Pokémon news sites this afternoon and I came across some very small pictures of a new WiiWare game called PokéPark. I went straight to the Pokémon World website, but you didn’t have the story. I’d just like to ask you if you know anything more about the game, and also ask why it’s not on the website?

Arrggh! You’ve caught us out there, Josh. While we do try to update the www.pokemon-world.co.uk website every day if we can, sometimes there are other things that get in the way of this, like putting the magazine that you love together. By the time you read this there will be a full news story on the new PokéPark Wii on the website, along with lots of new pics. In fact, we have also covered it in ‘Our Man in Japan’ this month where our Japanese correspondent has been raving about it! So what do we know so far? Err… well the full title seems to be PokéPark Wii: Pikachu’s Great Adventure and it’s an action game based around the travelling Pokémon theme park that many of the Asian countries have enjoyed over the last few years. Pikachu finds out that there’s some crisis at the park and gets to explore to solve the problems. It turns out, the yellow mouse has to take part in all kinds of attractions the park has to offer. To succeed, Pikachu will need to get assistance from various other Pokémon, and they will only come on board if he completes Trial of Strength games like quizzes and battles. With the correct Pokémon on your team you can go on to play a water race called the Marine Slider, a Sky Race and a regular running race. That’s about all we have right now, but keep checking back in the magazine pages to find out more!

What? Not Pokémon?Dear Professor Yew,
A bit off topic really, but I bought Super Smash Bros Brawl on the Wii recently, partly because I know it has Pokémon characters in it. What I want to know from you, though, is do you know how to access the special versions of old Nintendo games that are hidden away? A friend of mine said that he had played Donkey Kong in the game. Sorry that it’s not directly Pokémon related, but you seem to know most things about games.

Donkey Kong… you need to play more than ten hours of the game to access it.
F-Zero… Beat SSE as Captain Falcon.
Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time… You need to use Toon Link over ten times.
Super Mario USA… You get this when you win in Vs Mode with Peach more than
five times.
Super Mario World… Play Yoshi’s Island (Melee) more than three times to access this game.

New to Ash?Dear Professor Yew,
I know this might sound odd to you, and most of your readers too, but I am quite new to Pokémon and I came to this wonderful world of monsters by playing the games only. It was only a couple of months ago that I started watching the cartoon series on TV. What I’d like to ask you is, why is Ash from the cartoon series not in the videogames? And, how did Ash start out on his Pokémon adventure, because I get the feeling the ones on TV right now are way, way into the story.

Thanks for your letter, Sara – where have you been? Oh, you’re only 12, so that means you would have been… just born when the Pokémon cartoon series started out and Ash got his first Pokémon from my good friend Professor Oak. The episode was called ‘Pokémon – I Choose You!’ and was shown on 1 April 1997 in Japan for the first time. Ash’s goal has always been to become the world’s greatest Pokémon Master, and each episode he tries to move forward in his quest, with his trusty Pikachu by his side. The playable characters in the first Pokémon games on Game Boy looked much like Ash, but were given different names so as not to get confused with the cartoon, and since then the characters in the games have evolved to be their own characters and nothing to do with Ash at all. Odd really – you’d think it would have been Ash in the games all along!

Bun in the Oven?Dear Professor Yew,
I know it’s exciting to talk about HeartGold, SoulSilver and Platinum, but I only have Pokémon Diamond on my DS and my mum tells me that I won’t be getting any more Pokémon games for a while. That doesn’t make me sad, though, as I love Diamond to bits. My question for you is, though, how do I make the Pokémon bread? It’s something I haven’t worked out.

Adam, good to hear from you. Firstly, you can get Pokémon DVDs – just shop around. I’ve seen them in Borders and online. As for making Pokémon bread – well it’s called Pofin. Firstly you will need to get a Pack to store your bready creations in, then pick yourself lots of different berries to experiment with. Next, when you are in one of the towns take a trip to the local Bread Maker. Look around, you’ll soon find the right place. It’s all about blending. Put a berry into the machine and then use the DS touch screen to rotate the mechanism anticlockwise. You are now blending your bread. You can go slow or quick depending on the level of bread you want to create. When you’re done you will be marked on speed, accuracy and berry type. Depending on what you have used, your Pofin can boost a Pokémon’s Beauty, Cool, Cute, Smart or Tough stats. All very useful for the Super Contests in the game. Good luck, and happy baking!

i’m getting pokemon heartgold soon, and im going to pick cyndaquil as one starter but…i don’t know whats better…feraligatr or gyarados/
you see then i could start and pick totodile, then catch two, trade to platinum, restart heartgold and pick cyndaquil…then catch a pidgey, and a sentret and trade back the totodile for the sentret.
