Ask Professor Yew – 4

by the Pokémon World team

Yew-In-Chair-readingLots of useful tips from me, Professor Yew, this week. If you’ve got a Poképroblem, contact me at the address at the bottom of this page…

Terrible Twin

Dear Professor Yew,
If it isn’t too much trouble, could you answer two questions for me please?
Where can I find Bagon in Pokémon Ruby? I have searched and searched but can’t find him anywhere! Also, do you know where and how I can get the Dragon Scale to evolve Seadra into Kingdra?
From Peter, West Sussex

Well Peter, that shouldn’t be too much trouble at all, young man! Bagon hides in the very deepest depths of Meteor Falls – go all the way to the back of the caves and search the small chamber until one attacks you. Be sure to catch it, though – they’re pretty rare, even in the one place they exist! Your best bet is to find a Dragon Scale is to catch yourself a lot of Horsea – occasionally, they’ll be holding one. A word of warning, though: you might have catch a lot before you find the item you need. Good luck!

The End Is Nigh

Dear Professor Yew,
I have Pokémon FireRed but I can’t seem to defeat the Elite Four and Gary. What Pokémon should I use to have an advantage against them? Also, where can I catch Deoxys?
From Sam, Benwick

Well Sam, teams can be as basic or as advanced as you’d like – make sure you’ve got a good variety of tough Pokémon, too. A well-trained Alakazam, for example, will ruin all of Bruno’s Pokémon and you’d be wise to bring an Ice or Dragon-type to fight Lance. Otherwise, stick with a strong team you like, go level them up a little and it should work out just fine. As for Deoxys, the space-dwelling Pokémon is so rare that it was only available at special Nintendo events.

Fish On

Dear Professor Yew,
I’ve caught almost every Pokémon except Feebas in my Pokémon Sapphire game. I’ve searched all over and can’t find it anywhere! Where on earth is it and do you have to be fishing to catch it?
From Hassan, Doncaster

Well Hassan, a common problem indeed. Although Feebas shows up as being catchable on Route 119, he’s extremely rare. You’ll need to Surf all around the area, fishing like crazy. I recommend using a lower-quality Rod so as to have a better chance of seeing off all the lower level monsters. Keep persevering and you should eventually bag your very own Feebas!

Mum’s The Word

Dear Professor Yew,
I’ve got a big problem in Pokémon Ruby. You see, I keep losing to my mum. It sounds really stupid but she’s really good at Pokémon Sapphire. I think it’s something to do with my party…
My Party: Jirachi (L100), Blaziken (L100), Medicham (L100), Bannette (L100), Altaria (L75), Sceptile (L57)
Mum’s Party: Swampert (L100), Pellipper (L100), Sceptile (L100), Blaziken (L100), Raichu (L100), Volbeat/Girafarig (both L100)
Please, please help me!
From Maria, Nottingham
PS How do I get Azurill?

Hmmmmmm… the main problem I see is that you have two Pokémon who aren’t even really in the competition. Altaria and Sceptile need a bit more training to even the odds, preferably all the way to Level 100. Other than that, it’s a case of playing type match-ups against each other. You clearly know your mum’s team well and you’re probably aware of what moves the monsters use, so it might be wise to hide a few surprises in your own move sets. Swampert with Earthquake, for example, should be able to catch out Raichu if you play your cards right. As for Azurill – a lot of people don’t realise that if you don’t make a Marrill hold the Sea Incense while breeding two of them, you won’t get the baby form!

Four Of The Finest

Dear Professor Yew,
I have a few questions to ask you: In Pokémon Silver, how do you get Slowbro to evolve into Slowking? In Pokémon LeafGreen, where can you actually catch Mew? I have a Japanese copy of Pokémon Crystal – is there any way at all that would enable me to change the language to English?
From Becky, London

Firstly, the problem here is that Slowking doesn’t actually evolve from Slowbro – it evolves from Slowpoke! Trade one while its holding a King’s Rock and you should see for yourself. Unfortunately, Mew isn’t quite so simple and aside from cheating. Language switching is again a problem – there’s no option to do this (at least not in the Pokémon games), I’m afraid.

Big Screen Battles

Dear Professor Yew,
I am stuck trying to complete Pokémon Colosseum and have some questions for you. How do you get back to Snagem Hideout (the one you blow up at the start) and how do you catch Ho-Oh?
From Ryan, Thrapston

Well Ryan, good to see someone still playing Colosseum. To return to the Snagem Hideout, you’ll need to beat the game’s main quest and it should appear on the map for you to explore. As for catching Ho-Oh, you’ll need to purify every Shadow Pokémon in the game and then beat the 100 trainers at Battle Tower. Hard work? Yes. Worth it? Very much so…

Channel Hopper

Dear Professor Yew,
I have been to One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six and Seven Islands and got the gems, but I was wondering if there are any more islands to explore? If there are, what are their names and how do you get to them?
From Aidan, York

Well Aidan, by conventional means, you’ve hit them all – unfortunately, there’s nothing conventional about Pokémon! There are actually two more islands out there but getting to them is quite a chore. One houses Lugia and Ho-Oh while the other plays host to Deoxys, but in order for you to reach either, you’ll need Nintendo to download special items to your cartridge for you. Keep an eye on Pokémon World to keep updated!
