New Legendary Pokémon Reshiram and Zekrom Grace Covers of All-New Releases

OFFICIAL NINTENDO PRESS RELEASE: May 28, 2010 — The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo revealed today that Pokémon™ Black Version and Pokémon White Version, featuring the next generation of all-new Pokémon, will be released for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems in spring 2011 in Europe and North America. Additionally, the companies divulged that new Legendary Pokémon Reshiram™ (Pokémon Black Version) and Zekrom™ (Pokémon White Version) will be featured on the covers of the all-new releases worldwide.

“It’s rare to find a franchise with such worldwide appeal and dedicated fans as Pokémon.” said Laurent Fischer, Managing Director Marketing and PR, Nintendo of Europe. “We’re excited to inform our fans that this eagerly anticipated adventure, featuring an all-new generation of Pokémon, will be available in Europe in spring 2011.”

The launch of Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version follows on from the popular Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions, which have sold more than 8.4 million copies worldwide to date. Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions return players to the scenic Johto region, first introduced in Pokémon Gold Version and Pokémon Silver Version, launched nearly ten years ago. The Pokémon video game series has sold more than 207 million units worldwide since its inception 14 years ago.

These Pokémon Love To Be Felt!

Japan is the centre of the Pokémon world for toys, novelties, crafts and merchandise, that’s for sure. I bet many of you over in the UK would love to get your hands on the cool stuff I see every day in the Tokyo shops. Like this Diamond & Pearl Felt Pokémon craft kit I picked up. You can make little felt models of Pikachu, Piplup, Turtwig, Chimchar and Dialga, and each kit comes with all the bits you need to get stitching! Want to have a go at something similar? Yummy Chimchar For Your Tea!

What I love about the branded kids’ food here in Japan is it’s fun, and healthy too! No chicken nuggets here – this Chimchar is made from flavoured rice, with bits of radish, olive and turnip sliced to make the face. With a tomato and egg Poké Ball to go with it, what a great way to get healthy, eh?

Boom, Boom, Shake The Pokémon!

It seems that great minds think alike when it comes to Pokémon merchandise. Advertising the local Namco arcade here in Tokyo, I picked up a pair of really cool Boom Sticks, plastered with cool Pokémon images from Arceus and the Jewel of Life. Namco in Japan has obviously been subscribing to Pokémon World, as we have given away these Boom Sticks before, and by weird coincidence, in issue 103, on sale 29 April 2010, we have a new pair of Boom Sticks for you! What A Load Of Old Pants!

Hee-hee! It’s amazing what you can find when you go searching through the local markets here in Japan. I don’t think these are even official, but how cool eh? Pokémon pants! I couldn’t resist buying a couple of pairs to show off to you Pokémon World readers. Sadly, Your Man in Japan won’t fit into them – my bum’s too big! Altogether now, “What a load of old pants!” Har, har!

Flip or Flop?

What better way to get set for summer than with a pair of Pokémon flipflops? I’ve seen these three types so far; the black ones are my particular favourite!

With Pokémon HeartGold & SoulSilver still warm in your DS, the hype starts all over again for the next installment of Pokémon! Will it ever end? We certainly hope not because we LOVE the Pokémon games to bits! So, the big excitement for today is the release of six screenshots of Pokémon Black and White…

The Official Website for the new Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version is showing off scenes from around the new land we will find ourselves in when we play the new games. There’s what looks like a hometown, a Pokémon Center, a cave and some exciting shots of a big city. There’s not much more to report at this stage, but take a look at the shots below by clicking on them and get as excited as we are!

Very little is known about Pokémon Black and Pokémon White… except that they are called Black and White and they are to be released on Nintendo DS. We’re guessing that they will include lots of brand new Pokémon from the fifth generation of monsters, the first ones being Zorua and Zoroark from the 13th Pokémon movie Phantom Champion: Zoroark. The internet is full of people creating their own drawings of their favourite Pokémon, and we don’t normally report on them, but we just had to show you these amazing drawings of the first 150 Pokémon in the National Pokédex. A Japanese artist has recreated the monsters in a traditional Japanese artwork style. Some of the interpretations of your favourite Pokémon are truly terrifying! Just take a look at the cuddly little Pikachu – you wouldn’t want to bump into him in a dark alley late at night!

Here’s a game that will send your DS into a spin! It’s Galactic Taz Ball from Warner Bros starring Taz, the whizzy devil from the Looney Tunes cartoons. Let’s take a closer look at the action….

The dastardly Marvin the Martian has been stealing big chunks of the Earth and taking them to Mars to make the place look more scenic! While sucking up big clods of earth though, he accidentally kidnaps Taz. Big mistake! Taz is mad, and you’ve got to control him as he spins from one platform to the next, floating in space, and help him stop Marvin destroying the planet, then get Taz back home.

There are two worlds to explore in Galactic Taz Ball, with each having completely different gameplay. There’s the Overworld which is played out with 3D action on the top DS screen – you use the bottom screen as a tracker ball to move Taz around. Then there’s…

…the Underworld which is more of a side-scrolling puzzle game played on just the bottom screen using touch controls. Spin Taz fast enough in this mode and he will become a tornado, destroying enemies and objects – in fact anything that gets in his way! There’s lots of machinery and gadgets to explore in Taz’s wild way in this part of the game – with buckets of fun to be had!

Galactic Taz Ball is fast-paced, as you would expect from a game starring the Tasmanian Devil, and colourful. It’s great having the two different modes of play, as it stops you getting bored of one style of game. It’s also good to see Taz getting a videogame outing again – about time!

Taz is one of those Looney Tunes characters that you’ve just got to love, and this DS game is packed with frantic fun!

OFFICIAL NINTENDO PRESS RELEASE: March 23, 2010. RE: Launch of New Portable Game Machine. Nintendo Co., Ltd (Minami-ward of Kyoto City, President Satoru Iwata) will launch “Nintendo 3DS” (temp) during the fiscal year ending March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.

“Nintendo 3DS” (temp) is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed “Nintendo DS series”, whose cumulative consolidated sales from Nintendo amounted to 125 million units as of the end of December 2009, and will include backward compatibility so that the software for Nintendo DS series, including the ones for Nintendo DSi, can also be enjoyed.

We are planning to announce additional details at E3 show, which is scheduled to be held from June 15, 2010 at Los Angeles in the U.S.
