THE ELEMENTAL STONES
If you Surf to the North West of Mossdeep you will eventually come across a house with a Shard Hunter inside. In the Eastern ocean region of Hoenn there are red, blue, green and yellow Shards you can find if you dive. Give these to the Shard Hunter and he will pass on one of four Elemental Stones…
Fire Stone Take the Red Shard to him
Leaf Stone Take the Green Shard to him
Thunder Stone Take the Yellow Shard to him
Water Stone Take the Blue Shard to him

JANUARY SALES IN LILYCOVE!
Once you have defeated the Elite Four, go around checking the TVs in houses. If you find one that is flashing, check it out more closely and you may get an ad for a clearout sale at the Lilycove Department Store.
DIAMOND DUST
On 12 January make sure you visit Snowpoint City in these games. Instead of snow falling from the sky you will see diamond dust falling instead! It sparkles as it falls to the ground.

FAST EGG HATCHING
You can halve the time it takes to hatch a Pokémon egg in these games by making sure that you have a Pokémon with you that has either the Flame Body or Magma Armor abilities.

.

Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire

BALL UPGRADES & INFINITE POINTS
If you get three Chinchou Pokémon moving in a clockwise circle, shoot a ball at them. There is a glitch in the game where the ball will go straight past the Pokémon, then when it falls down again and hits them it will rebound back up the table again. The ball will continue doing this, racking up the points and earning yourself lots of upgrades until the pinball machine goes into Tilt mode and you can get the ball out of this loop.

.

UNLOCKABLE SECRETS

Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen

GET A LEGENDARY BEAST POKÉMON!
Would you like a Legendary Beast Pokémon with you on your adventure? First of all you must beat the Elite Four (don’t you always?) and then, when in the wild, you will be joined by a Legendary Beast Pokémon. The beast you get is dependant on which starter Pokémon you got. There are three Legendary Beast Pokémon – you get Entei if your starter was Bulbasaur, Raikou if you chose Squirtle and Suicune if your starter Pokémon was Charmander.

SECRET ITEMS
In the two games, you can find special secret items if you stand on the exact spot that someone (or some Pokémon) of importance has stood, and then use the Itemfinder…

Leftovers… Use the Itemfinder where you found two Snorlax
Soothe Bell… Use the Itemfinder at Pokémon Tower where Mr Fuji was standing
Macho Bell… Use the Itemfinder in Viridian Gym where Giovanni was

.

Pokémon Dash

PADS, BALLOONS AND LAPRAS EXPLAINED
As you whizz through the levels in this DS racing game, you will come across pads to boost you, balloons to float you around and Lapras to do some island hopping. Here’s an explanation of what you get from each…

Pads
Sand Pad: This will boost your speed on a sandy landscape.
Grass Pad: A speed boost when you are on the grass.
Swamp Pad: Again, a speed boost, this time in the swamp, but also to stop you from drowning!
Forest Pad: In a forest setting? This will give you a speed boost!
Ice Pad: Boost your speed on the ice.
Rock Pad: Speed boosting on the rocks.
Lava Pad: Another speed boost, this time on a lava terrain, and this also stops you from burning, which is handy!

Balloons
You can float anywhere in the level by using one of the balloons, but there are precautions to take! You can’t fly yourself over brick pathways, there is no landing
in the sea or in the forest and you can
only pop the balloon once when over an icy landscape.

Lapras
The friendly Lapras will help you to travel from island to island and reach goals that are water-based.

HARDER CUPS
There are harder cup modes hidden away in the game, and here is how you can access them…
Expert Mode… Beat the Hard GP Mode
Expert Rules Time Attack Mode… Unlock the Expert GP Mode
Special Cup… Beat the Normal GP Mode
Time Attack Mode… Beat the First Cup on GP Mode
Harder GP… Beat the Original GP

GET SHINY TROPHIES
If you don’t choose to retry any races in a Cup, you will be rewarded with shiny trophies instead of normal ones!

.

Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia

UNLOCK THE CAPTURE ARENA
Once you have completed the main story in the game you will be able to access the Capture Arena. You will need to ride Wailord to get there from Haruba Village.

CAPTURING REGIGIGAS
Want to grab Regigigas? Well first of all you must complete the Browser by getting the 266 regular Pokémon. Then head to the Ranger Union to be told about a whirlpool that has appeared in the Hippowdon Temple.
Set up your team before you head there. You must have Registeel, Regirock and Regice, so capture them if you need to. Add to this some Magneton and some Ground Pokémon.
Once at the temple, move on through until you reach the room with arrows. The whirlpool is in the middle of this room. Fall into the whirlpool and then place Registeel, Regirock and Regice on the pedestals to open up the route. Now prepare to battle Regigigas – this is the toughest battle in the entire game!
As Regigigas stomps around it will send out shockwaves that will steal 18HP from you if you are hit. It will then deliver one of five attacks for you to prepare for. The first is to make boulders fall from above, then there’s an earthquake it creates in an X pattern, there’s a mega-punch, a strong beam attack and rocks it sends out to the four corners. Take your time to defeat this Pokémon. Try charging up from a distance when Regigigas stands still and draw a bunch of circles around it before it can get going.
Watch out later, as more boulders will fall and they will be more frequent. The Ground Pokémon will help out with their PokéAssists, dealing damage and stopping Regigigas in his tracks. Magneton can help out by recovering your HP if you fall too low during the battle.
The best tip is to take your time and be patient – you will slowly chip away at this final Pokémon and complete your Browser!

There’s lots of Pokémon fun to be had in this WiiWare game – take a look at what we’ve discovered…

Life is never dull on My Pokémon Ranch. Every day a new toy will be dropped into the place for you to discover. The toy comes giftwrapped and new toys always replace old ones. The higher your ranch is ranked, the more toys you will get. You can open gifts by lifting the boxes and dropping them. Toys will make your Pokémon and Miis extra happy and allow them to exercise together.

Poképalette
Your Pokémon will play with the palette, then all the others will organise themselves and make a mosaic of the Pokémon with the toy – cool!

Snowman
A small snowman will attack with an icy blast if Pokémon attack it first! This is a great one to be playing in the wintertime! Of course, you could just leave it well alone and not get attacked yourself!

Pokémic
This mic is great fun. If a Pokémon shouts into it, the sound comes out on your Remote!

Surprise Ball
This red ball bursts with stars if you throw it at a passing Pokémon or a Mii. This doesn’t actually do a great deal, but it looks spectactular when your friends are watching! What great fun, eh?

Fountain
This fountain appears on the ranch and you can bathe your Pokémon in it one at a time.

Cannon
Here’s something that we know you will find lots of fun… You can fire your Pokémon over the fence using this comedy cannon! Just load ’em up and blast ’em off! They don’t like it much though… ahhh.

Balloons
Hand these multicoloured balloons to any Pokémon you don’t like much and they will float away. Now they won’t get on your nerves!

Banana Skin
These are fun – just pop one on the floor and wait around to see what happens! Well you can guess, can’t you? It’ll send any Pokémon or Mii that stands on it slipping and sliding onto their bums!

Pendulum
If any Pokémon or Mii stands close to the pendulum they will become hypnotized and fall over!

Cushion
Place these cushions on your Mii’s head and they can then transport their Pokémon in comfort! You would have to be a pretty lazy Pokémon though to accept a lift from a stranger with a cushion on his head!

Camp Fire
Pokémon like nothing more than gathering around the campfire. Listen carefully – they might just sing some songs!

Play God!

With a flick of the Wii Remote you can create natural disasters to make the lives of your Miis and Pokémon difficult…

Earthquake
By holding the remote vertically, then giving it a knock from the right to the left you can knock everyone over with a quake!

Explosion
Again, holding the remote vertically, give it a knock from the front towards the back. Any nearby Pokémon or Miis will be blasted away!

Tornado
This time hold the remote horizontally. Give it a blow from the left to start a tornado going! Pokémon and Miis will be sent flying around the sky, causing chaos!

Trampoline
Keep the remote horizontal, only this time give it a knock from below, going up. All of the Pokémon and Miis on your ranch will jump up at the same time, as if on a giant trampoline!

Here are a few bits and pieces we have found from the Pokémon World archives to help you get more out of your Pokémon games…

.

.

Pokémon Dash

New Pokémon courses…
If you insert a Game Boy Pokémon game cartridge like Ruby, Sapphinre, Leaf Green or Fire Red you can upload new courses from the data on the cart and play them with your current party in Time Attack mode.

Get Shiny Trophies
Make sure you never retry any race and when you win a cup, it will be extra shiny!

Speed Up Credits
When the credits are rolling at the end of the game, press on the touch screen to make them whizz by faster! When they’re done you’ll be told how far you have dashed in the game!

Pokémon Link

Forever Mode
The new Nintendo DS Pokémon Link game is packed full of bonuses and secrets. Forever Mode is a twist on the usual Endless Mode. To access it you must first complete the Adventure Mode twice. When you’ve done this, ‘Forever’ will appear on the main menu screen. This mode has a playfield that’s seven columns wide and will give you a new distribution of rare Pokémon. Your Links must now start with a line of five instead of four too and the whole thing is sped up, making the game that much more tricky.

Finding Rare Pokémon
Here’s where to find some of the rare and more popular Pokémon…

120 – Staryu
Phobos Submarine, Endless Level 36, Trozei Battle, Mr Who’s Den

246 – Larvitar
Secret Storage 3, Secret Storage 15, Endless Level 10, Mr Who’s Den

307 – Meditie
3. Get yourself over to the PC and save again.
4. Turn the PC on, then go over to Bill’s PC and turn his computer on too.
5. Find the Pokémon you want to clone and put in into an empty box.

Pokémon Channel

Here are strategies for getting the most of some of the mini-games you will encounter on your adventure…

Pokémon Pinball Petit
If you’ve completed the Quest mode you get to play as Pikachu, otherwise it’s Diglett. The game is pretty simple, so rack up some points!

Snorlax’s Lunch Time
You get to control old Snorlax and help him stuff his face, but watch out for the Pichu – you shouldn’t eat him! Keep a regular beat and you should be fine.

Pikachu’s Rocket Start
The trick here is to press the A button really fast as soon as you feel the vibration start. Pikachu will soon be rocketing away!

Slowking’s Judge
Was the ball in or out? There’s plenty of time to decide so don’t panic and it’s best to wait until you’re really sure. The more you get right, the tougher it becomes!

DID YOU KNOW?
In Channel you can jump to the next day by changing the time on your GameCube. Don’t worry, it won’t harm your game save!

Are you finding life rough in the Fiore region? Not sure where to head next on your Pokémon Ranger quest? Well, you’ve come to the right place! We’ve compiled a bunch of strategies together for the brilliant Pokémon Ranger, all of them from letters Professor Yew has received. See if they can help you!

Q. I’m finding it very tricky to pick up all the parts of the Aquamole in the Olive Jungle, do you have any help you could give me? Sarah, Nottingham

A. Oh yes, that pesky Mechanic doesn’t like bugs at all, does he? He must accompany you to pick up the parts of the Aquamole, but if he sees a bug he will run for his life! The best strategy here is to forget about capturing Pokémon in the main, just concentrate on getting past them and finding the parts. You will find them at the end of the Olive Jungle. It’s better to wait until the Pokémon are as far away from you as they get, then run past them. Once you exit this section they will stop chasing you.

Q. What is the best way of dealing with the Camerupt found in Mission Five: Clear The Rockfalls? It’s a bit tough for me! Simon, Colchester

A. Well, by this time you will be a five rank Pokémon Ranger, so you should know all the basics of the game really well, unless you’ve got through on luck alone! The objective of this mission is to clear Krokka Tunnel so that the residents of Fiore can safely pass through. On encountering Tiffany from the Go-Rock Quads though, you will be faced with the Camerupt, as this is her idea of a tough challenge for you! What you need to defeat this Pokémon is a Water Pokémon. If you don’t have any with you, do you remember coming though a cavern full of Poliwhirl and Zubats? Well, head back there and grab yourself a Poliwhirl. This Pokémon will have a Bubble PokéAssist that you can use against the Camerupt – it turns the Pokémon to steam, solving your problem.

Q. Do I need to collect all the Pokémon I encounter on each mission to properly complete the game? David, Somerset

A. No, not really. Unlike other Pokémon games, Pokémon Ranger is more about completing the missions laid out before you than actually ‘catching ’em all’, but you can treat collecting all the Pokémon as an interesting side mission if you like! If you want to complete your Ranger Pokédex, the thing to do is ensure you capture each Pokémon as you come across them in the game – give everything you’ve got to tick them off your list. If you don’t, chances are you won’t come across them again for a long time. The choice is yours – catch ’em all or stick to the missions. If we know our Pokémon-mad readers, though, you’ll all be wanting to find every Pokémon out there!

Q. Do you have a complete list of the special missions hidden in Pokémon Ranger? Henry, Dublin

A. Yes, there are lots of special missions in the Ranger Net section, opened up once you have completed the main Story Mode. You access them like this…

MISSION 1: GAIN DEOXYS’S TRUST?!
This first mission is instantly available once you have unlocked the Ranger Net mode by completing the game.

MISSION 2: RESCUE CELEBI!
You have to complete the Deoxys mission above before the Celebi mission is selectable.

MISSION 3: FIND MEW, THE MIRAGE!
In a similar vein – you must complete the Celebi mission to unlock the Mew mission.

PASSWORD ENTRY
Now comes some Pokémon trickery! On the main Ranger Net screen press R, X and Left on the D-pad together and you should unlock the Password Entry mode.

MISSION 4: RESCUE THE PRECIOUS EGG!
A-ha! This is where the Password Entry mode comes into play. Enter the password for the Manaphy Egg (P8M2–9D6F–43H7) to get started on this very special mission.

WATCH/TRANSFER MANAPHY
Once the Manaphy Egg Mission has been completed, you can watch Manaphy in action and transfer the little Pokémon to Pokémon Diamond and Pearl – once they’ve been released!

Q. Have you been to the Fiore Temple and defeated the Go-Rock Boss? It’s a really hard battle. What is the best way of beating the three Legendary Pokémon? Nick, Ludlow

A. Ah yes, Entei, Raikou and Suicune together do make a formidable team to defeat. It’s all about the preparation for battles like this. Don’t even enter this battle without a Golem, Vaporeon, Grovyle, Raichu and Donphan in your party. You must type-match the Pokémon in order to win.

RAIKOU
This tricky monster will come at you with a bunch of haphazard attacks that look like they have no pattern. Hit it with a Ground Poké Assist and then watch carefully – its movements will slow down, giving you the chance you need.

SUICUNE
Just to confuse you, Suicune will create an optical illusion and split into three versions of itself. Only one is the real Pokémon though, so battling the others is a waste of time and energy. Take Grovyle and use a Grass PokéAssist to cut Suicune down to size.

ENTEI
This fiery Pokémon makes the most of its type by spewing out fire and making the battle area hazardous. Try a Water PokéAssist to put out its fires and follow up with a Discharge to stun it and a Ground PokéAssist. This should sort him out!

Q. How do I know when I need to use a Field Move and have you any tips for using them? Noah, London

A. When a Field Move is the way forward, tapping on an object nearby will make it appear in the top screen. The info box will tell you which Field Move you will need to use out of the nine. In the early stages of the game, the Pokémon you will need to help you is bound to be nearby, so have a scout around. Later on as things toughen up you will have to search further afield. Here they all are…

TACKLE
If something needs to be shaken or budged, this is the move you need.
It can knock Pokémon out of trees
with this.

BURN
Getting past logs and hay bales will require a Burn Field Move, and most of the Fire Pokémon can perform this.

GUST
Some of the rarest Field Moves are the Gust ones, using it will knock over plants to reveal unseen Pokémon. When you’ve got a Pokémon with gust, it’s best to keep hold of it!

RECHARGE
All Electric Pokémon can perform
this useful move – it recharges your Capture Styler by the same amount of move icons that Pokémon has – one, two or three.

CROSS
Certain places in the game will need a Cross Field Move, but not many Pokémon have this one in their arsenal. Try Ivysaur or Bulbasaur, they’re your best bet.

CRUSH
You can tell a boulder, wall or rock that can be crushed, it will be made up of a certain pattern. The best Pokémon to use here are Machoke or Hariyama.

SOAK
Fires can be put out and lava patches cooled with a good soaking. You can also use this to revive dried out vines, then you can climb them to access previously inaccessible areas.

FLASH
This is a Field Move unique to
one Pokémon – Staryu. When it performs the move it will light up entirely dark areas.

CUT
Slicing with their claws, some Pokémon can perform the Cut Field Move. It’s useful for hacking up fences or cutting up shrubs.

Q. Can you please explain about the different types of Pokémon and how they will help me in a battle? Stacey, Brighton

A. When you call a Pokémon into battle, you do so to use their abilities to help defeat the boss you’re battling or capture the Pokémon you’re after. Here are the more useful ones…

BUG
Using this Battle Ability will trap your opponent inside the lines you’ve created with your Capture Styler.

DARK
Using this ability will increase the length of your Capture Styler line.

FIGHTING
With this ability active, each time you create a
fully closed line, it will take two HP points instead of one from your opponent.

FIRE
A great one this – when you’ve created a complete line around your opponent, explosions are set off making it hard for them to retaliate.

FLYING
This ability will create gusts of air that will lift an opponent off the ground for a short time.

GHOST
Spooky stuff! On completing a line around your opponent, ghosts come along and stun everything that is inside the circle.

GRASS
Predictably, using this Battle Ability will create a line of grass around your opponent. Useful if they are particularly affected by grass!

GROUND
Want to keep an opponent from crossing the battle screen? Ground will smash up the ground and stop them in their tracks.

ICE
Similar to ground, but this time patches of ice are created, freezing the opponent if it touches them. A chilly foe is easier to kill!

Pokémon’s first Wii game has been keeping our postbag full of questions and requests for any hints and tips so we thought it was about time we obliged. Here is everything we know…

The first thing we recommend in Pokémon Battle Revoution is getting to know Anna – she’s the lovely lady who works as the game’s receptionist and explains everything to you. She will tell you that the game is all about travelling to new stages and battling the Colosseums in Pokétopia.

The first thing you will have to do is choose yourself a Battle Pass. There are Rental passes for those who don’t have Diamond or Pearl, or you can transfer your Pokémon from the DS games. Choosing the Cindy or Nate Rental passes doesn’t make a heck of a lot of difference – just go for the Pokémon you prefer. So it’s off for a Battle, but which option to choose?

The Colosseum Battle Mode is where you get to travel around from one Colosseum to the next. You have to defeat the Pokémon Trainers you encounter to win a pass to move on to the next Colosseum. This is the main thrust of the game and where you will spend the majority of your time. Check out our special box on the Colosseum Mode over the page for more tidbits of information.

In Free Battle Mode you and a friend can choose to battle it out together for fun or maybe to practice for the Colosseum Mode? Then there’s Battle Tutorial where you are shown a demo of a battle. This isn’t the waste of time it might seem as you can pick up some good tips on playing by watching the demo right through to the end. When you’re done here it’s time to choose some Pokémon and jump on in!

Once your Battle has begun there are three main options you will use to control the game. First comes Fight – this is what Pokémon Battle Revolution is all about! You must choose an attack for your Pokémon and then you get to see them perform it in glorious 3D. You can also jump from one Pokémon to another with the options here, although watch out as some battles don’t allow you to use this option. If you’re finding the battle really tough and want to bow out gracefully you can use the Give In option.

To get yourself a Perfect Point you need to win the battle without any of your Pokémon fainting (Pokémon never die!). The Perfect Points are useful as they allow you to play this Colosseum again if you fail rather than having to start over from the beginning again.

As you progress through the Colosseum Mode you will come across different kinds of battles. Some of these are self-explanatory like the Single Battle where one Pokémon fights at a time, or Double Battle where you can have two monsters at once. Then there’s the Knockout Battle where you must knock out the other Pokémon to win the round. A Team Battle has a team order that is decided on at the start and you must win three rounds to be victorious. Fortune Battle sees a spinning wheel introduced that you must throw a dart at to select your Pokémon. Tournament Battle pits you against four out of 16 Trainers and you must beat them all plus the Leader. A League Battle has six Trainers and you earn points for Pokémon surviving to the end then the one with the highest score battles the Leader. A Select Battle throws in random Pokémon for you to battle with, a Little Battle uses unevolved Pokémon with a level under five. Then there’s Survival Battle where you must endure battle after battle without time to replenish your health between fights. Then finally the Masters Battle is the ultimate test – a Knockout Battle with some of the toughest Pokémon Trainers the world has ever known!

If you’re tough enough to get through all of the battles then you will certainly deserve your prize – a special Pikachu and access to the codes to get Electivire and Magmortar! We can’t wait for the next Pokémon game on Wii! Imagine – it could be a fully blown role-playing game in 3D!

.

Customising Your Trainer…
A wonderful inclusion in Pokémon Battle Revolution is the ability to customise your Pokémon Trainer to suit your own personality. It’s something Pokémon fans have been wanting for a while! Here’s the lowdown on what you can do…

Creation
Nintendo has given us a host of options to make a Pokémon Trainer that’s as close to us as possible. Height, hair style, clothing, accessories and bags can all be chosen, tinkered with, changed and updated as you play through the game. Choose carefully because this is how the rest of the Pokémon world will see you – you don’t want to look daft!

Storing
Up to 32 Trainers can be stored in the game, along with each of their Pokémon teams. What’s more, you can even give them their own opening statements so that the battle really is uniquely yours. Once stored you can allocate them to any of your teams, which means that even if deleted they will be retrievable by going back to your team save.

Battling
With all the options tweaked to perfection you can take your shiny new Pokémon Trainer into battle with you. You will live in Pokémon Battle Revolution through this little guy. This is your way of showing off to your Pokémon battling mates as you can now take your Trainer online through Nintendo Wi-Fi and let the world tell you what they think!

.

Special Pokémon
You may have seen this in previous issues, but once you’ve beaten the game you get a Surfing, Volt-Tackling Pikachu for your efforts. Then there are special Pokémon codes to unlock an Electivire and Magmortar too! Just follow these instructions…

1. Go to the Edit Your Profile section and selection Self-Introduction.
2. Now, if you want Electivire, enter the code tko3-9jwp-34kl. This is the English code.
3. For Magmortar you should enter the code jl49-05kn-odnv. Again, English only.
4. Now the lady on the desk will tell you all about a Gold or Silver Pass you have unlocked by entering the code. She will go on to say that Shocking or Heated Secret Gift items have been added to the Mystery Gift shop for Electivire and Magmortar!
5. Head to the game shop and now at the bottom of the list you will find the items costing 0 PokéCoupons. Now you can transfer these Pokémon to Diamond or Pearl!

.

Colosseum Mode…
You can use the Pokémon you have trained in Diamond or Pearl in the many Colosseums in this mode. There are also lots of sub-modes that each have special features for you to uncover.

1. Gateway Colosseum
In this first battle you can enter with a Pokémon from the Rental set and then exchange Pokémon with the Trainer Joe once you have beaten him.

2. Main Street Colosseum
You have to ensure you defeat all of the opponents in this Colosseum as it’s a knockout battle. Fail and it’s game over for you!

3. Waterfall Colosseum
You won’t know which Pokémon are going to come out next in the Waterfall as your Team Order will be decided by your opponent.

4. Neon Colosseum
You unlock this Colosseum by winning at the Waterfall. The Team Order is this time decided randomly by the spin of a roulette wheel!

5. Crystal Colosseum
The Waterfall also unlocks the Crystal Colosseum. Your battles this time are in a 16- person Tournament-style with Voldon tackling you.

6. Sunny Park Colosseum
Defeating Neon unlocks Sunny Park. It’s another Knockout Battle where you must win to stay in the game. In Round two baby Pokémon are battled!

7. Magma Colosseum
Unlocked by beating Sunny Park, there’s a six Trainer Tournament to beat here, including the leader. Once again you must beat everyone to win.

8. Sunset Colosseum
You and your opponent will each receive 2 Pokémon from a selection of 12 randomly selected. To win here you must go all the way through with these.

9. Courtyard Colosseum
Unlocked by winning at the Sunset Colosseum, this is another of those Knockout Battles where losing will send you back to the start again!

10. Stargazer Colosseum
Taking on the mysterious Mysterial is tricky, as he will decide on your Team Order. Polish up your strategies to win with any Pokémon you may get!
